Scruffy colleagues?

Sir, – According to "Civil servants raise concerns over 'scruffy' colleagues" (Front Page, September 19th) "scruffy" staff are a concern for fellow workers in the Department of Social Protection. The consultants employed to carry out the review were paid almost €100,000.

Unless some action follows, the whole exercise will have been futile; but surely if a dress code is to be established in a government department, the same principles should first be applied in Dáil Éireann. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – In relation to the recent review of the Department of Social Protection, I wonder why your headline focused on the “scruffy staff” finding, and not the findings that “staff take pride in the work they do, are incredibly conscious of their duty to taxpayers and citizens and that work is often very rewarding on a personal level”. – Yours, etc,
