Sir, – Your report on volunteer involvement and pride in communities comes at an important point for at least one major national youth organisation ("Most Irish people proud of their communities, says newreport", June 13th).
Last week, Scouting Ireland hit the magic membership figure of 50,000, the highest membership figures in its history.
With all the bad press that young people get, let us thank all the many young people and leaders who continue to make scouting the best youth movement in the world, and now the biggest (and best) in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
