Salad days and buying Irish

Sir, – Buy Irish? Ha, ha, ha!

Recently, to get the last bits and pieces for our dinner, we made a quick trip to Supervalu to get some scallions and lettuce. Oh dear, no scallions, but we were informed they were expecting a shipment shortly from Mexico.

A quick run down to Tesco. The scallions were from Indonesia. Again the Irish lettuce was limp and expensive, so next we went to Aldi, where the scallions were from Peru. The lettuce was okay but small, so I bought an iceberg lettuce from Spain.

So our dinner was veal from Holland, potatoes from Israel, lettuce from Spain and scallions from Peru. – Yours, etc,
