Madam, - My wife and I were walking on Red Barn beach, Youghal, Co Cork (on the so-called "Irish riviera" - www.theirishriviera.com) last Saturday evening. We were absolutely disgusted at the condition of the beach. It was filthy. There was litter everywhere - anything from pint glasses, bottles, boots, shoes to plastic bags and food.
I am sure people will say that there are no rubbish bins and that the council should provide such a service, but surely people can bring home their own litter. What an attractive place Ireland is for tourists: come here, get ripped off, and sit on our filthy beaches. - Yours, etc,
