Sir, - RTÉ recently announced its top 10 earners for 2009, ranging from €213,954 to €729,604 and paid for largely by our compulsory licence fees (Home News, November 12th). In this light, it seems extraordinary that prominent television and radio hosts feel entitled to entertain criticism of the salaries of those as indispensable as surgeons, senior civil servants and skilled government ministers. Yes, public servant salaries should be capped at €150,000, but so too should those of individuals contracted or employed by our national public service broadcaster. - Yours, etc,
