Madam, - It was most heartening to read (November 24th) of the substantial increase in Irish beef exports to the EU. Selling high quality products, tailored to sophisticated European consumers who are willing to pay decent prices, is surely the best, and most profitable, basis for Irish agribusiness.
Refraining from subsidised dumping which distorts Third World markets also avoids robbing poor farmers overseas of their livelihoods and dignity.
So, congratulations to all those in the beef industry and supporting agencies whose hard work over the long term is making all this possible. - Yours, etc.,
