Religious influence in schools

Madam, – Richard Morton (December 24th) writes in relation to control of schools by the Catholic Church. He also mentions that oversubscribed Catholic schools can give preference to Catholic children.

To our knowledge and experience this practice is also openly carried out in all Protestant schools, both primary and secondary. I would be of the opinion that all schools, primary or secondary, that request State funding should be obliged to operate a system of equal access. I look forward to the day when all schools treat all potential students in a fairer way and not based on any particular religion or ability to pay. – Yours, etc,
