Madam, - In response to Dr Kevin Williams (Rite and Reason, January 26th) might I suggest that the "generously conceived and multi-confessional programme" that he describes might be found within the religious education programmes of multi-denominational national schools under the patronage of Educate Together?

It is my deeply held view that such programmes hold a key towards a greater understanding of difference and an appreciation of diversity in Ireland and elsewhere.

I look forward to the publication of the first national document of this ethical education curriculum later this year. I hope it is widely read and I have no doubt that it will reflect the pioneering work of Educate Together over the past quarter century. - Yours, etc.,

JOAN WHELAN, Principal, Ranelagh Multi-denominational National School, Dublin 6.
