A chara, - In case we lose the run of ourselves and give new life to certain subversive organisations - as we would, no doubt, if a campaign were to begin to slide us back into the British Commonwealth - why not proudly support the German Foreign Minister, Dr Joschka Fischer, who, a few days ago, launched a campaign to turn the European Union into a single sovereign, federal state?
Let us remember that, unlike our neighbouring government in "these islands", we are already transferring control of our currency to a central EU authority - and more, including tax harmonisation, is naturally and rightly to follow.
Dr Fischer will, no doubt, promote his policy during the German Presidency of the Union, which begins on January 1st next. Let us be in there supporting him and thus show that we are indeed positive, rather than reluctant, Europeans - and not afraid to join a genuine and logical commonwealth, with no imperial hangovers attached. - Is mise, Donal O Morain,
