Sir, - After a weekend that gave us a handful of new Irish heroes - notably oarsman Sam Lynch and showjumper, Dermot Lennon, as well as the new All-Ireland champions from Armagh - it was both maddening and pathetic to see so many so-called sports journalists in this country still beating the same monotonous tune on the "Roy Keane in Saipan" drum. Put it away, kids - it's boring!

Can we instead move on and applaud our Sam Lynches and Kieran McGeeneys - men who trained in dodgy conditions for years, not days, to reach the pinnacle of their underfunded and financially unrewarding careers.

Perhaps it's time to place them all on the pedestals and open-top buses where they deserve to be. - Yours, etc.,

SEAMUS LYNCH,
