Sir, – Unlike Maolsheachlann Ó Ceallaigh (January 29th), I would be in complete agreement with Grace Egan (January 28th) when it comes to the annoyance and irritation caused by fellow passengers on what passes for public transport in this country. And it’s the reason I use the bus or Luas only as a last resort.

I do not consider people shouting loudly into their mobile phones for an entire journey, or blaring their “music” out through headphones to the annoyance of others around them, as “eccentricities and oddities”. Such behaviour is frankly ill-mannered, inconsiderate and shows a selfish disregard for fellow commuters.

If I was so interested in the fascinating private lives and musical tastes of these people – which they insist on sharing with all of us unfortunate enough to be in their vicinity – then I would go and live with them. – Yours, etc,

SEAN MAY,

Old Kilmainham Road,

Dublin 8.
