Sir, - I would like to clarify for Cllr McGrath (November 7th), that all of the horrific tunnel accidents which occurred in Europe this year (such as that at St Gotthard) were as a result of head-on collisions in single tunnels with two-way traffic. This cannot happen in the Dublin Port Tunnel.
Dublin Corporation is building twin tunnels, which are some distance apart, with all traffic in any one tunnel travelling in the same direction. Furthermore, we will be incorporating many other safety features into the tunnel. - Yours, etc.,
