Sir, - Professor Ryan's criticism of President Robinson for [not observing the "proper" dress code when meeting the Pope (March 26th) is redolent of the kind of Pharisaic nonsense to which Jesus was so vehemently opposed. If Jesus could heal on the Sabbath, dine with prostitutes, and break all the silly rules of his time, it surely must be o.k. for our President to pick whatever dress colour she deems appropriate, even when meeting the Pope.- Yours, etc.,
