O'Sullivan's last lap

Madam, - Thank you for the front-page picture of Sonia O'Sullivan in Tuesday's edition

Madam, - Thank you for the front-page picture of Sonia O'Sullivan in Tuesday's edition. It did indeed speak a thousand words, but not cruelly, unlike every other front-page picture I saw on the day.

It was hard to see her struggle, but her tenacity, courage and wonderful grace was inspirational. Well done, Sonia, and thank you. You are a true heroine for our age. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - Well written, Keith Duggan. For me, Sonia O'Sullivan's last lap was the highlight of the games, cutting through all the hype and the hooks, the chancers and the cheats, to the essence of what the Olympics should be about. To see an athlete, who for years commanded the very heights of her field, carrying on to a finish when there was nothing in it for her but pride and respect warmed the heart of this old one-time six-hour marathon man. Well done, Sonia; we've never been more proud of you. - Yours, etc.,
