NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS

ROSEMARY WILSON,

ROSEMARY WILSON,

Sir, - The topic of corporate governance is very much in the news recently - and rightly so. One of the most important aspects of good corporate governance is that of having suitably experienced non-executive directors on board.

The process of appointing the right non-executive director should be given the same importance as that of appointing the chief executive. Sadly, this is not always the case and many a board has non-executive directors who make no real contribution to the company.

The Boardroom Centre, now at the Institute of Directors, was set up as a non-profit organisation some 18 years ago with the specific remit of promoting good corporate governance and of helping companies to find appropriate non-executive directors for their boards. We have a register of experienced non-executive directors with diverse business backgrounds and qualifications who are available to act as non-executive directors on company boards. Over the years we have successfully helped many companies, both public and private, large and small, to find appropriate board members.
