Sir, - John Ballantine (November 13th) suggests that asylum-seekers are coming to Ireland from, among other places, Poland. Let me assure Mr Ballantine that, contrary to the arrogant opinion of Irish people that others, including Poles, are queuing up to gain entry to the Celtic Tiger's lair, the reality is somewhat different. Most Poles, amazingly enough, like it where they are, at home. For the small minority who do wish to work abroad, legally or otherwise, Ireland as a destination is well down their list.
It is worth noting that over the past couple of years many Irish companies recruiting in Poland couldn't even fill all the places they offered. Some could not fill any at all. - Yours, etc.,
