Sir, - The word "marine" by definition excludes river and lake fisheries. When the Department of the Marine was created it seemed to worsen the neglect of inland fisheries by that Department. Out of sight, out of mind!
Would it not now be better to retrieve the old title of "Department of Fisheries"? After all, Irish shipping, other than the fishing fleet, has long since been done away with by an entirely separate piece of neglect. - Yours, etc.,
