Sir, - I was amazed to read that a Government committee is considering the Phoenix Park as a possible site for our proposed National Stadium.

How could anyone with any sense of heritage or the aesthetic even think of such a preposterous idea? The people of Dublin and Ireland should reject the thought of a monstrosity on a scale of this proportion. We have already one ugly edifice spoiling the natural beauty of the 15 acres, but to erect a large stadium with all the services that go with it would destroy an area of wildlife and natural beauty in the very heart of the city.

Our city planners and speculators have in the past destroyed large parts of Georgian Dublin. Are we now to despoil what is arguably one of the most beautiful parks in Europe? - Yours, etc.,
