Sir, - The organisers of Heritage Week are to be thanked for an excellent programme of events, exhibitions and publications, funded by Europe and held in Dublin this week. This will provide a useful smokescreen to ensure that the destruction of our heritage can continue without interference. The fate of the magnificent ruin, Tyrone House, Co Galway, has been aired in your columns recently; it is dying a slow death at the hands of the thieves and vandals. Even Carton, Co Kildare, in its beautiful intact demesne of a thousand acres, is to be ruined with a huge hotel tacked on to the house, eight new crossings over the Rye and hundreds of houses in the park. The skyline of Dublin is under its worst threat ever by the proposals for George's Quay.
