More to Irish cities than Dublin

Sir, – My dictionary defines rural as “in, of or like the countryside”. I don’t live in Dublin yet when I venture outside my house I am confronted with an urban, not a rural, setting. My family left rural Ireland in 1851 and never returned.

I am not anti-rural Ireland nor am I anti-Dublin, though I do wish Dubliners would realise that although Dublin is the largest city on the island and is the capital city of the State, it is not the only city in the country. – Yours, etc,

JIMMY CORCORAN,

Cork.
