Sir, - I was delighted to read John Boland's enthusiastic piece, "Birth of the cool" (The Irish Times, March 16th), on Miles Davis's Kind of Blue 1959 recording. The version to buy, as Mr Boland says, is the Columbia label with the alternate take of Flamenco Sketches. The number of this CD - not mentioned in the article - is CK 64935.
For those readers who may not be au courant with another of my favourite Miles recordings, I would recommend Sketches of Spain - Columbia CK 40578. These two are gems. - Yours, etc.,
