Modular social housing

Sir, – The resistance to the provision of modular homes for those without them is disappointing ("Finglas residents vow to continue modular housing protest", April 21st). My view has always been that for this much-needed measure to succeed, the locations are crucial. If the authorities continue to site these developments exclusively in already challenged areas, and ignore other options, resistance is inevitable.

Sites in Dublin 4, Montenotte, Taylor’s Hill and other such areas need to be identified and built upon. What would be so awful with sequestering part of Herbert Park or indeed the large RTÉ campus in Donnybrook?

No direct provision facilities exist in affluent areas, and hardly any social housing either.

Perhaps there was an expectation that the citizens of Finglas South would not object in the same manner as those from these leafy suburbs would? – Yours, etc,
