Mobile phones and driving

Sir, – Anthony Moran, (Letters, April 30th), is now calling for the banning of the use of hands-free phones in cars. To be consistent he should also have called for no conversations with fellow passengers, or perhaps forbidden the carrying of passengers. Outdoor advertising is another area he should look at, with election posters a big no-no. The nanny state is alive and well. Yours, etc,

Sir, – If drivers are forbidden to talk to their cell phones on the dashboard while their hands are safely on the wheel, surely they ought to be forbidden to have passengers. No more cranky toddlers, sulky teenagers, disgruntled spouses, garrulous neighbours ... I can’t wait! Yours , etc,
