Sir, – Although by now most sectors of the Irish economy have converted fully to metric units of measurement, the property sector seems firmly stuck in the past. Its toing and froing between square feet and square metres in your property section advertisements since the early 1970s is becoming increasingly tiresome.
Square feet have not featured in our educational system for many decades and became officially obsolete in the 1980s (statutory instrument no 225). Surely by now everyone (except perhaps Ross O’Carroll-Kelly) is familiar with square metres. – Yours, etc,
