Medical staffing crisis

Sir, – Further to the impending shortage of junior doctors in hospitals in July.

Sir, – Further to the impending shortage of junior doctors in hospitals in July.

I am currently working as a junior doctor in Belfast and while I have a job secured for next year, many of my colleagues don’t. I am not aware of any recruitment drive here in Northern Ireland encouraging junior doctors to consider working in the Republic. When I suggest it to them – the notion of working “Down South” has never occurred to them.

In one part of this island there are not enough doctors, in another part there are not enough jobs. Surely there could be a meeting of minds here? – Yours etc,

Dr JOHN LEGGE,

Lockview Road,

Belfast.
