Sir, - I refer to Mr Vincent Brown's article (January 31st) entitled "Media hype on crime ignores the facts".

Sir, - I refer to Mr Vincent Brown's article (January 31st) entitled "Media hype on crime ignores the facts".

In the course of the article he refers to Hibernian's sponsorship of the RTE programme, Crimeline, making the assertion that Hibernian has an obvious vested interest in public alarm over crime.

I wish to assure Mr Browne, and your readers, that Hibernian's motivation in sponsoring Crimeline is quite the reverse of that implied by Mr Browne. We believe the programme is providing a valuable public service in combating crime.

Our corporate objective is to reassure our customers, indeed we use the slogan "Safe in the hands of Hibernian". Alarmism is not our business. - Yours, etc.,
