A Chara, - So Charlie McCreevy, EU commissioner for competition, has finally shown his true colours with his uncritical praise of the leadership and economic policies of Margaret Thatcher (The Irish Times, December 20th).
Many of us in Ireland have been saying for years that Mr McCreevy was a Thatcherite and the third PD in the cabinet, and we didn't join in the joy felt by some on the left and in the trade union movement when it was announced that he was resigning the Finance portfolio to take up up his EU post.
We rightly predicted that Mr McCreevy would not be a much bigger danger because he is dictating competition policy for the whole of the EU. - Is mise,
