Madam, - While the revelations from adoption history in Ireland never cease to surprise me, I wonder if there is anyone within the halls of justice and government who really understands the plight of those people touched by the ongoing revelations.

There really must be some sort of inquiry into adoption history. The question that must be answered by authorities right across Ireland is: "To what extent were records falsified, not completed, or destroyed to prevent the truth being found out?"

Mary Raftery's column of August 21st highlights the contempt with which the authorities treat people living with adoption in their lives.There are many cases of births not being registered, or being registered in false names, leading to adopted people being unable to establish any family origins. Now we learn of death records being treated similarly.

Could this be the reason behind the current Irish Government's attempts to prevent adopted people accessing their records? - Yours, etc.,
