Sir, – Large scale infrastructure, such as transport or communications systems, requires long-term vision. Major State projects do not lend themselves however to five-year political terms. We have seen failings in planning, communications and transport that affect us now but were germinated perhaps decades in the past.
A National Infrastructure Commission is present in other countries like Britain and Australia, which is an advisory body to government capable of seeing the long-term for State infrastructure and beyond short political terms. Let’s see such a body established in Ireland.
