Sir, - I am Polish, a French resident whose greatest pleasure is to spend, as often as I can, a few days in Ireland, most bewitching of countries. For the last two years, I have been lucky to frequently travel to various parts of the country. Ireland is beautiful, no matter where. I would like to express my concern about some of those most remarkable landscapes being polluted with casual litter.

There is an enchanting walk in Kerry - a path along the shore ending in an unbelievable tunnel of rhododendrons - strewn with empty coke cans and candy wrappers - I am seeing this country, people and landscapes, with truly loving eyes, but I cannot pretend I do not notice the waste under my feet.

Does human presence really need to inevitably damage natural environment? It is important to make everyone sensitive to the issue of the environment protection. Keeping the countryside clean is certainly part of it - however trifling a Mars wrapper left on a forest walk may seem. I remain convinced you will share my concern and agree the mass media have a role to play there. - Yours, etc.
