Litter Along The Dodder

Sir, - Joseph F. Walsh (April 29th) is right. Nobody in authority gives a damn about the serious litter problem. As recently as last Sunday, I gazed sadly into the Dodder at Donnybrook Bridge wondering why it had got to this sorry state - the usual debris of cans, cartons, papers and the great offender, the immortal plastic bags, adhering to the branches and briars. Many concerned citizens, myself included, drive around like traveling bins, with boots full of recyclable material such as cans, glass, newspapers and clothes en route to their nearest recycling bank. But a huge bulk of present-day refuse is made of Tetra Pak cartons and the ubiquitous plastic bag.

To my knowledge there is no collection point for these."Where is our Green TD?" I ask myself. What is his plan for the environment, particularly in his constituency? Why can't we have a doorstep collection of recyclable material as was possible some year ago? Why? Or even why not? - Yours, etc., Mary D Brophy,Nutley Lane, Dublin 4.
