Sir, – Like anyone who studied Junior Certificate CSPE (civic, social and political education), I view the new Leaving Certificate politics course with some trepidation ("Politics to be Leaving Cert subject", November 11th).
The modern Leaving Certificate is time-consuming, stressful and often laborious for teenagers. Adding another subject would just increase the burden on young people who already feel detached from the education system.
If society genuinely wants to create well-informed young citizens, the entire education system should be refocused, rather than inserting a new subject into a system primarily designed to meet exam requirements. – Yours, etc,
