Sir, - Since 1922 there have been some 19 or 20 Fianna Fail ministers for justice. The same span of time has accounted for six, or, seven Fine Gael ministers for justice and two from Labour.

So one must ask what were the FE ministers doing? There was just one effective FE Minister for Justice, Charles J. Haughey. It would seem that the rest of the FE ministers, in a properly docile manner, signed what was placed before them by the "Yes minister" brigade and, then, they all went home for their tea.

Nothing can be clearer but that the foundations for the present law and order problems were deeply, and firmly, laid by a long line of FF ministers for justice.

Fianna Fail is the last party in the country to be pointing a finger at Nora Owen. Ms Owen has the monumental task of rebuilding a department covered in moss. - Yours, etc.,
