Madam, - Now that TDs are taking their extended summer holidays, leaving the Dáil chamber and parts of Leinster House empty for three months, I suggest that the free space be made available as a temporary Accident and Emergency unit for Dublin city centre. After all, it's adjacent to Grafton Street, Leeson Street and Temple Bar, areas which provide so many of the late-night casualties that clog up our city hospitals. There is also excellent 24-hour security to deal with public order offenders.
Those left on trolleys to sober up could do so in the plush surroundings of the Dáil chamber, and TDs with time on their hands could double up as care assistants to the hard-pressed medical professionals. - Yours, etc.,
