Islam must look at itself

A chara, – What Gary Doyle (Letters, June 30th) experienced of Islam is greatly to be desired.

However condemning extremist Muslims and reaching out to non-Muslims is not enough. Islam also has to look at itself and most importantly address the position and status it gives the Koran. Islam teaches that the Koran is the direct, eternal, unchanging word of God, to be taken and obeyed absolutely literally, there is no historical or cultural context.

It is urgent that Islam breaks from this dogma, it is a dogma that creates extremists and justifies their acts. – Le gach dea-ghuí, CIARÁN Mac GUILL Clichy, An Fhrainc.
