Sir, – The United States, Britain, France, Germany, have all announced in the past week that they will be withdrawing troops from their military misadventure in Afghanistan. When can we expect a similar announcement by the Irish Government? Many Irish people are still not aware that at least seven Irish soldiers are serving with the Nato International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, in breach of Irish neutrality, in so far as Irish neutrality still exists.
With the increasing levels of international troop withdrawals from Afghanistan, these Irish soldiers will be at increased risk. They should never have been in Afghanistan in the first place. – Yours, etc,
