Madam, - It is important that professionals considering taking up a short-term working contract in Ireland, such as M.S. White-Jones (February 19th), be made aware that there are two types of laws in Ireland: 1. Laws that make you pay the Government some money, such as VRT on a "new" car, for example. This category of law is always rigorously enforced by the State, through the courts, with zero tolerance of evaders.

2. Laws that make the Government provide you with something you have a "right" to, such as remedial education for children. This category of law is always vigorously resisted by the State, with zero admission of liability.
