Sir, – In his article on IRA splinter groups, Brian Rowan states: "Today the dissident threat stems from this coalition, as well as other standalone groups such as Óglaigh na hÉireann and Continuity IRA" ("Dissident republicanism's 20-year escalation", News Agenda, August 18th).
Óglaigh na hÉireann is the official name of the Defence Forces. The insertion of a qualification such as “so-called” when referring to terrorist groups that have expropriated the title for their own nefarious purposes would be helpful in the interests of accuracy and to avoid insult, albeit unintentional, to an organisation that serves our country with great distinction. – Yours, etc,
