Madam, - In his Irishman's Diary of March 22nd Kevin Myers asks what Cardinal John Henry Newman would have made of UCD's interdisciplinary studies.
I cannot speak for the interdisciplinary studies or the Woman's Education, Research and Resource Centre at UCD. However, I would like to make one comment on Cardinal Newman.
Newman was an educational philosopher well ahead of his time, and once said that it was more important to understand than to be understood. This being the case, if UCD's interdisciplinary studies promote greater understanding of ourselves and the world around us, then I can assure Mr Myers that John Henry Newman will not weep. - Yours, etc.,
