Sir, - Prime Time's recent documentary on Dublin's innercity slums was a sombre reflection both on our country's social inadequacies, and on the inability of the Government to rectify them. In the midst of such economic prosperity, scenes of abject poverty and degradation, such as those experienced by the inhabitants of St Teresa's Gardens, are shameful.

As Mr McCreevy rams his right-wing agenda home, dismissing all criticism as coming from "left-wing pinkos", the sections of our society most in need remain marginalised and ignored. What's perhaps most worrying is that, according to the MRBI poll published in your January 26th edition, 71 per cent of the population believe his policies to be "good for the country".

It seems to be a case of the blind leading the blind. - Yours, etc.,
