Sir, - One might be forgiven for asking at whom exactly Sile de Valera was aiming her article "Building a More Inclusive Society" (The Irish Times, December 22nd). Does she not know that society often takes its cue from the ruling class - i.e., the Government.
The Government's last Budget did nothing to promote the inclusive society of which Miss de Valera so eloquently writes.
When a government shows by budget policies just how much it undervalues the less well-off in our society, it implicitly leads public opinion down this route, and no number of prettily written speeches by Miss de Valera will change this - Yours, etc.,
