Harding’s festive cheer

Sir, – I have just read Michael Harding's reflections on trips to Santa Claus and childhood Christmas presents ("How I discovered Santa was real", November 22nd). In these days of the depiction of Ireland as a secular country, and the promotion of secularism in various forms of media, it was encouraging to read of "a god of infinite generosity". I am reminded of the great poet John Betjeman's words, "That God was Man in Palestine, And lives today in Bread and Wine". Keep it up Michael, you're in good company. – Yours, etc,

BERNADETTE McINTYRE,

Cork.
