Madam, – I am horrified by the notion that the Health Professionals Admissions Test (HPat) is a good idea because it restores “gender balance” to the medical profession.
Despite the predominance of women entering the profession in recent years the vast majority of consultants are men, who have made great personal sacrifices to achieve these positions.
Perhaps women are unwilling to make such sacrifices, being smarter, and it is time to change the profession at the top and not the bottom. Wake up gentlemen, the goalposts have shifted, make the profession more family friendly for future consultants and you will have done something really important to restore “gender balance”. – Yours, etc,
