Sir, - It was with some surprise that I noticed that Joe Curran (October 23rd) identified one group from whom members of the Emergency Response Unit at Abbeylara may be at risk as "the insane who may just feel like having a go at someone who is in the news". In saying this Mr Curran aligned the mentally ill with subversives and serious criminals. I consider this wholly inappropriate. This view is regrettable, particularly in view of his position as a senior Garda representative. - Yours, etc.,
