FR JOE DUNN

Sir, - The recent untimely death of Father Joe Dunn removes from our midst a man of remarkable vision. Certainly not one content to leave his light under a bushel. His Radharc series, spanning as it does more than three decades, is a marvellous legacy from a man who looked squarely at the reality of his Church. He saw it steadily and he saw it whole.

In both No Lions in the Hierarchy and No Vipers in the Vatican, his love for the Church was clearly evident. But equally obvious were his concerns about the authoritarian regime of the present pontificate, and the virtual abandonment of the vision of Vatican II.

Along with Joe Dunn, the Church has recently lost three other critics who cared, Kevin O'Kelly and Peter Hebbletwaite, and just some months ago, Cardinal Suenens. Joe Dunn let his light shine out in his life and in his work. May light eternal now shine on him! - Yours, etc.,
