First past the post – only fools and horses?

Sir, – Jim Cunningham is exactly right to point out that Jeremy Corbyn has not “risen to power” in the UK (September 1st).

There’s very little value in trying to interpret UK general elections while they persist in using that idiotic “first past the post” voting system. Jeremy Corbyn lost June’s election with a far higher vote share than, for example, Neil Kinnock, who lost in 1992; yet Mr Corbyn now holds 10 fewer MPs than Mr Kinnock did.

Meanwhile the Conservatives had their best election since 1983 – but no-one seemed to notice because they’re nine seats short of an overall majority.

The “first past the post” system has to go. – Yours, etc,
