Fianna Fáil and candidate selection

Sir, – Paul Delaney (October 1st) notes that the addition of Mary Hanafin to the Fianna Fáil ticket in the Dún Laoghaire constituency risks "splitting the vote, with the distinct possibility of neither candidate winning a seat".

Surely on that basis the decision to add Ms Hanafin is something which ought to be applauded? As citizens of a country brought to the brink of ruin by the Fianna Fáil party, we should heartily endorse any and all acts of fratricide and electoral harakiri which they might commit over the coming months, thereby reducing their chances of winning seats and returning to wield the sort of power they abused for so many decades. – Yours, etc,
