Madam, - With major infrastructural projects in the process of being fast-tracked, can forestry make a case also? State organisations and private companies have made hundreds of applications to fast-track projects related to road, rail, air and sea transport, energy, gas and waste management. The Strategic Infrastructure Act, which came into effect in January, is already fast- tracking some of these projects.
Forestry, worth €2 billion annually to rural Ireland, can sustainably increase its economic potential while mitigating the effects of carbon emissions. Its role in protecting air quality, water ecosystems, biodiversity and archaeology, deserves reward. - Yours, etc,
