Sir, - Mr Tomas O Duinn was in error in the Irishman's Diary of October 8th when he stated that Sir Robert McClure navigated the North-West Passage. It was the Norwegian Roald Amundsen who traversed the whole early this century.

Details can be found in The Arctic Groit - the quest for the North-West Passage and the North Pole 1818-1909 (Toronto, McClelland & Steward, 1988).
