Sir, - So George W. Bush is unhappy with the forceful response that US Attorney General Janet Reno sanctioned to finally end the unlawful custody of the Miami-based Gonzalez clan over Elian Gonzalez. For Bush to claim that "the US is a country of laws, not of guns" is rich indeed coming from the man who, as Governor of Texas, championed a change in his state's gun laws which enables its citizens to now carry concealed weapons.
The Republican-dominated Congress has also shown itself to be unashamedly pro-gun and American citizens should remember this when casting their votes in November.
